INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBNRATION 2016

At the 2016 International Women's Day Celebration NSW SLASA Men's Group paid tribute to women recognizing and celebrating their achievements and contributions to the community.

En la celebracion del Dia Internacional de la Mujer 2016 el Grupo de Hombres de NSW SLASA rindieron homenaje a las mujeres reconociendo y celebrando la contribucion de las mujeres al desarrollo de la comunidad.

FESTIVAL DE LA ARMONIA EN HURSTVILLE

Este Festival es un proyecto común de la Asociación Hispano Latinoamericana (NSW SLASA) con la Municipalidad de Hurstville y Advance Diversity Services y tiene como objetivo principal el celebrar la diversidad cultural de Australia y promover la aceptación, respeto y un sentido de pertenencia de todas las comunidades étnicas existentes en Australia.

Es un día donde también celebramos todas las cosas en común que tenemos con las otras culturas sin importar de donde y a qué país pertenecen. El tema central del día es “Todos pertenecemos”, enfatizando la importancia que tiene que todos nos sintamos como pertenecientes a esta sociedad multicultural en la cual estamos viviendo. El tema de este año 2016 es “la diversidad es nuestra fortaleza”

Este Festival de la Armonía se realizara el Sábado 19 de Marzo desde las 10.30 am hasta las 3.30 pm en el Marana Auditorium que se encuentra ubicado en la MacMahon Street en Hurstville.

Participaran en el Festival Víctor Valdez, Pepa Molina y su compañía de Flamenco, Mexical, Comparsa de Candombe Yauguru y la sensacional banda de Salsa Chango. También tendremos grupos folclóricos de Nepal y China. Habrá servicio de comidas tradicionales.

Harmony Day, celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
It is a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity and to share what we have in common.
The central message for Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians. The theme for Harmony Day 2016 is our diversity is our strength.
This is a join activity of NSW SLASA, Hurstville City Council and Advance Diversity Services.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION 

This morning we had an International Women's Day Celebration in partnership with Community First Step here at NSW SLASA Community Centre in Bonnyrigg. A real celebration where women from different ethnic background participated in all the activities; we had women from Middle Eastern, Latinas, Asian and European. Another great grass roots celebration to promote and strengthen multiculturalism and social cohesion. the event was attended by Chris Hayes Federal MP for Fowler and for 200 women.

AFRO LATNO FESTIVAL 2016 

Extravaganza, color, passion, spectacular, festive, fun are only a few words to describe what the Afro Latino Festival 2016 performances and activities displayed yesterday at Casula Powerhouse. Among the 2.000 attendants from accross Sydney, there was a mix of Africans, Latinos, Asians, Middle Easterns, Aussies and Europeans. The festival has become a great grass roots multicultural gathering. A great opportunity to promote and strengthen multiculturalism and social cohesion. the event was organised by NSW SLASA in partnership and collaboration with Casula Powerhouse, funded by Liverpool City Council, Department of Social Services and RIA money transfer.

She has performed with the most prestigious Flamenco dance companies in the industry, she will performing at the Harmony Festival at the Marana Auditorium in Hurstville on Saturday 19 March. Pepa Molina es una bailaora flamenca que partiendo de un concepto tradicional flamenco y valiéndose también de la danza contemporánea, busca profundizar en las formas de percibir el baile a través de la exploración de sonidos, la música, otras disciplinas dancísticas, la danza teatro flamenca y la escenografía. En busca de una nueva esencia, innovadora, perceptual y elástica.

HARMONY FESTIVAL AT HURSTVILLE

Chango Salsa Band will perform at the Harmony Festival in Hurstville on Saturday 19 March, this is how they define themselves: 
"Our mission is to make you dance, with our driving Latin rhythms, congas, timbales, sharp brass horn lines, rich vocals, and energy we will have you on the dance floor all night long."

We regularly perform at clubs, weddings private parties, business functions, community events and festivals. With a current line-up of 11 performers, we can play relaxed and chilled out jazz or bolero as guests arrive and talk, and move into high energy salsa, cumbia, merengue and bachata after the formalities.

Comparsa Candombe Yauguru will perform at the Harmony Festival to be held at Marana Auditorium in Hurstville on Saturday 19 February, for more information contact NSW SLASA on 9610.0288.

Candombe Yauguru, an Afro-Uruguayan drumming and dancing group that formed in Fairfield to continue the rhythmic tradition that is at the heart of Uruguayan culture and heritage. Candombe is a generic term for all Afro-Uruguayan dances that has become an important part of Uruguayan culture for over 200 years. It has its origins in the Spanish slave trade, which brought Africans mostly from Bantu areas in Eastern and Equatorial Africa and the remainder from Guinea, Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone and Ghana to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay in 1750.

Victor was born on the 10th of August, 1966 in Veracruz, Mexico. Started in music and dance in 1975. His talents as a dancer were recognised as Assistant Director of Folklore Ballet for the Secretary of Public Education in Veracruz Mexico. For three years in a row he won 1st place in the National Folklore Dance Competition in Mexico City. Here, Victor taught Latin dance at the Sydney Dance Company for four years.

As a solo harpist he has given concerts in over 25 countries of 4 continents around the world.
He was a member of the best and highly acclaimed Mexican Folk Group of Veracruz Mexico, 'Tlen Huicani' for ten years (named best folk group in Mexico by the union of music and theatre critics).

With this professional group Victor gave many concerts and performances in respected halls and theatres. Including over 20 performances in the Sydney Opera House.Victor is also a specialist in guitar rythyms of Latin America and percussion's including conga, bongo, timbal, maracas, Cajon, Guiros, etc.

In Sydney he is a member of the Harp Society and has performed at their annual concert in the Government House and has given many workshops of the Mexican Jarocho Harp
